Privacy Policy

MARKMATE is an AI-assisted assessment platform designed to help English teachers in Israel process, assess, and grade school examinations, including internal school examinations and external examinations such as Bagrut examinations (the “Service”).

The Service is operated by Nooshee Inc., doing business as MARKMATE (“MARKMATE”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

MARKMATE is intended exclusively for use by teachers and authorized educational personnel in Israel. Students do not create MARKMATE accounts and do not use the Service directly.

This Privacy Policy explains what information MARKMATE collects and processes, how that information is used, with whom it may be shared, and how long it is retained.

This Privacy Policy applies to:

• teachers and authorized educational personnel who use MARKMATE;
• examination materials uploaded by teachers;
• student handwriting and examination answers contained in those materials;
• examination results, scores, and AI-generated grading information; and
• technical and account information required to operate the Service.

MARKMATE is designed as a teacher-facing service. Students do not interact directly with MARKMATE.

MARKMATE is designed to process examinations without identifying information about the student.

Teachers are expected to photograph or upload examination papers without the student’s:

• name;
• Israeli identification number;
• address;
• telephone number;
• email address; or
• other unnecessary identifying or personal information.

The teacher is responsible for ensuring, to the extent reasonably possible, that examination materials uploaded to MARKMATE do not contain unnecessary personal information about the student.

If identifying information nevertheless appears in an uploaded examination, MARKMATE does not guarantee that the information will be detected or automatically removed.

Teachers should therefore review examination materials before uploading them and should avoid including student identifying information wherever it is not necessary for grading.

4.1 Teacher Account Information

When a teacher creates or uses a MARKMATE account, we may collect:

• name;
• email address;
• account identifier;
• authentication information;
• information associated with the selected sign-in method; and
• information provided when contacting MARKMATE support.

If a teacher uses Google Sign-In, MARKMATE may receive the teacher’s name, email address, and Google account identifier.

MARKMATE does not receive or store the teacher’s Google password.

4.2 Examination Information

When a teacher uploads an examination, MARKMATE processes the examination image itself.

This may include:

• photographs or scans of examination papers;
• student handwriting and written answers;
• examination questions and responses;
• teacher-created or teacher-selected rubrics;
• answer keys and marking criteria;
• extracted or recognized text;
• suggested scores and grades;
• grading explanations; and
• AI-generated feedback.

MARKMATE is designed to minimize the amount of student personal information processed. Teachers should therefore not upload information that is not necessary for examination grading.

4.3 Payment Information

If a teacher purchases MARKMATE tokens or other paid services, MARKMATE may process information necessary to administer the transaction, such as:

• transaction status;
• purchase amount;
• order ID;
• transaction reference;
• token balance; and
• related purchase records.

Payment card details are entered directly through the applicable payment provider and are not stored by MARKMATE.

4.4 Technical and Security Information

MARKMATE may process limited technical information necessary to operate and secure the Service, including:

• IP address;
• authentication and session information;
• browser or device information;
• timestamps; and
• security and error logs.

MARKMATE does not use advertising identifiers, behavioral advertising, device fingerprinting, or advertising tracking cookies.

MARKMATE uses information only for purposes related to providing, operating, maintaining, and securing the Service.

These purposes include:

• creating and administering teacher accounts;
• authenticating users;
• receiving and processing examinations;
• recognizing and interpreting handwritten answers;
• performing OCR and image recognition;
• applying teacher-provided rubrics and marking criteria;
• generating suggested grades, explanations, and feedback;
• displaying examination results to the teacher;
• maintaining token balances and processing purchases;
• providing customer support;
• sending necessary service-related communications;
• maintaining the security and reliability of the Service;
• preventing misuse, fraud, and security incidents; and
• complying with applicable legal obligations.

MARKMATE does not sell personal information.

MARKMATE does not use student examination materials, student answers, grades, or feedback for advertising or behavioral profiling.

MARKMATE does not use examination content to train general-purpose AI models.

MARKMATE uses third-party image-recognition and artificial-intelligence technologies to interpret examination images, recognize handwriting and examination content, and assist in grading.

The examination image itself may be transmitted to the third-party processing service used for the relevant examination workflow.

Internal School Examinations

For internal school examinations, MARKMATE currently uses Google Cloud Vision to process the examination image for purposes including OCR, handwriting recognition, and interpretation of examination content.

External Examinations

For external examinations, including external Bagrut examinations, MARKMATE currently uses Claude Vision by Anthropic to process the examination image for purposes including handwriting and examination-content interpretation and AI-assisted grading.

Future Processing Technology

MARKMATE may change, replace, or consolidate the technologies used to process examination images as the Service develops.

For example, MARKMATE may in the future use Claude Vision for both internal and external examinations.

Any such change will remain subject to the purposes and limitations described in this Privacy Policy and to applicable law.

The examination image and related information are transmitted to the applicable processing provider solely for the purpose of providing MARKMATE’s examination-processing and grading functionality.

MARKMATE does not authorize the use of student examination information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or unrelated commercial purposes.

MARKMATE does not use examination content to train general-purpose AI models.

MARKMATE provides AI-assisted grading and is intended to be a decision-support tool for teachers.

AI-generated results may sometimes be inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent. This may occur, for example, because of:

• handwriting quality;
• image quality;
• unclear or ambiguous answers;
• examination content;
• language;
• rubric interpretation; or
• other limitations of automated processing.

MARKMATE does not replace the professional judgment of the teacher.

The teacher is responsible for reviewing the relevant examination, the recognized or extracted information, the applicable rubric, the suggested grade, and any AI-generated feedback before accepting or communicating a final grade.

The final responsibility for the grade remains with the teacher.

MARKMATE should not be used as the sole basis for a significant educational decision concerning a student.

MARKMATE does not sell, rent, or otherwise provide student examination information to third parties for advertising, marketing, profiling, or unrelated commercial purposes.

For examination processing, the examination image is transmitted only to the third-party technology provider required for the relevant examination-processing workflow.

Depending on the type of examination, this currently includes:

• Google Cloud Vision — for internal school examinations, including OCR and handwriting recognition.
• Anthropic / Claude Vision — for external examinations, including external Bagrut examinations, including image and handwriting interpretation and AI-assisted grading.

An examination is not routinely sent to both providers. The provider used depends on the type of examination and the MARKMATE processing workflow.

MARKMATE may use other third-party service providers for limited operational functions such as authentication, payment processing, hosting, communications, or security. Such providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform their specific services.

Student examination information is not transferred by MARKMATE to other organizations for purposes unrelated to providing the MARKMATE Service, except where disclosure is required by applicable law or is necessary to protect the rights, security, or property of MARKMATE, its users, or the public.

MARKMATE is intended for use by teachers in Israel.

Some technologies and service providers used to operate MARKMATE may process information on servers located outside Israel.

Accordingly, examination images and other information processed through MARKMATE may be processed outside Israel.

MARKMATE will take reasonable technical, organizational, and contractual measures appropriate to the nature of the information and applicable Israeli law when using service providers that process information outside Israel.

MARKMATE is designed to retain student examination information only for a limited period.

10.1 Examination Images and Handwriting

The original examination image, including photographs, scans, PDFs, and images containing student handwriting, is automatically deleted 30 days after grading of that examination is completed. If an examination has not yet been graded, the original image is retained until grading is completed, but in no case beyond 90 days after the examination was uploaded — at which point it is deleted together with the examination record described in Section 10.2.

10.2 Examination Results

Examination results and associated assessment information, including extracted or recognized content, grades, scores, AI-generated feedback, and related assessment records, are retained for up to 90 days after the examination was uploaded.

After this period, the relevant information is deleted from MARKMATE’s active systems.

10.3 End of the School Year

Regardless of the retention periods described above, all student examination materials and examination results stored by MARKMATE are deleted at the end of each school year.

Therefore, no student examination information will remain stored solely because the applicable 30-day or 90-day period has not yet expired.

10.4 Teacher Account and Transaction Information

Certain information relating to teacher accounts, purchases, transactions, security, fraud prevention, tax, legal compliance, or disputes may be retained for longer where reasonably necessary or required by applicable law.

Teachers may delete examination information through MARKMATE where the relevant deletion functionality is available.

A teacher may also contact MARKMATE to request deletion of their account or eligible information.

Deletion may be delayed or limited where retention is required by applicable law or is reasonably necessary for:

• compliance with a legal obligation;
• a security investigation;
• fraud prevention;
• dispute resolution; or
• the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.

MARKMATE uses reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

These measures may include:

• encrypted connections using HTTPS/TLS;
• authentication controls;
• access controls;
• restricted access to databases and cloud storage; and
• security monitoring and logging.

No internet-based system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Teachers are responsible for keeping their account credentials confidential and for using MARKMATE only through their authorized account.

If a teacher believes that their account or examination information may have been compromised, they should contact MARKMATE promptly at: markmate.app@gmail.com

Teachers using MARKMATE are responsible for:

• ensuring that they are authorized to upload and process the examination materials;
• photographing or uploading examinations without unnecessary student identifying information;
• reviewing examination materials before uploading them;
• complying with applicable Israeli privacy requirements and relevant school or institutional policies;
• complying with applicable Ministry of Education requirements and examination procedures;
• reviewing AI-generated grading results before accepting or communicating a final grade; and
• ensuring that their use of MARKMATE is consistent with their professional and educational responsibilities.

The teacher remains responsible for the decision to upload an examination and for the final grade assigned to the student.

MARKMATE accounts are intended for adult teachers and authorized educational personnel.

Students, including minors, do not create MARKMATE accounts and do not use the Service directly.

MARKMATE may nevertheless process examination answers and handwriting belonging to students who are minors because such examination materials are uploaded by authorized teachers for educational assessment.

MARKMATE processes such information only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and in providing the requested Service.

Teachers remain responsible for ensuring that they have the appropriate authority to upload examination materials and for complying with applicable requirements concerning students and minors.

MARKMATE does not use advertising cookies, behavioral tracking cookies, or device fingerprinting.

MARKMATE may use strictly necessary cookies or local-storage technologies required for core functionality, including:

• authentication;
• session management;
• security;
• user preferences; and
• fraud prevention.

These technologies are not used for cross-site behavioral advertising.

If MARKMATE introduces optional analytics or other non-essential tracking technologies in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.

MARKMATE relies on third-party technology providers to provide certain functions of the Service.

These providers may have their own privacy policies and terms of service.

MARKMATE selects and uses such providers for specific operational purposes and does not authorize them to use student examination information for advertising or unrelated commercial purposes.

The third-party providers used to process examination images are described in Section 6 of this Privacy Policy.

Subject to applicable Israeli law, teachers may have rights concerning their personal information, including rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of eligible information.

Because student examination materials are uploaded and controlled within the teacher’s educational context, requests relating to student examination information may need to be handled through the relevant teacher or educational institution.

MARKMATE may request reasonable information necessary to verify the identity and authority of the person making the request.

MARKMATE will respond to valid requests within the period required by applicable law.

MARKMATE may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Service, technology, legal requirements, or data-processing practices.

If MARKMATE makes a material change to this Privacy Policy, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service, by email, or by another appropriate method where required.

The “Last updated” date at the beginning of this Privacy Policy indicates when the Policy was most recently updated.
